Ho Chi Minh city hopes for US support for start-up

Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan on October 18th received a US delegation, led by Ted Yoho, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific under the US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee.

Appreciating the development in the Vietnam - US cooperation, Mr. Nhan said that Vietnam has reported more and more investment projects from the US in diverse areas, including economics, society, education, science and technology. Of which, Ho Chi Minh city has made efforts to promote cooperation with the US, especially in economic, commercial and investment cooperation.

The US is currently the 10th largest foreign investor in the city with over 350 projects capitalized at over USD640 million. In the first nine months of this year, among 579 foreign invested projects licensed by the city, the US led in terms of capital with USD310 million, accounting for one third of the total foreign investment capital in the city. Speaking during the reception, Mr. Nhan said he hoped the US Government and businesses would cooperation with the city in carrying out start-up and innovation activities, and developing smart city.

He expressed his confidence that, in his position, Mr. Ted Yoho would continue to support Vietnam and promote specific activities to boost the Vietnam – US comprehensive partnership, including the Ho Chi Minh city - US relationship.

For his part, Mr. Ted Yoho appreciated the effective cooperative activities between Ho Chi Minh city and US localities in economic, commercial, investment, education and urban infrastructure areas, adding that he hoped the two sides would continue to deepen trade relations in the future.

According to Mr. Ted Yoho, many US businesses care about investment into Vietnam in general and in Ho Chi Minh city in particular. He pledged to support the city in urban development, including the building of a smart city./.
