“The city commits to do its utmost to efficiently carry out projects using Japan’s ODA,” he added.

On March 18th, he had a farewell meeting for Tetsuo Konaka, the Chief Representative of JICA's Vietnam Office.

According to Mr. Phong, during Mr. Tetsuo Konaka’s working term, projects using ODA have been carried out smoothly, including the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro, which is expected to be put into operation in late 2021. “In particular, non-refundable assistance from the Japanese Government for the project on upgrading the old water sewerage was adopted in an agreement signed last month,” he said. “There is a deep imprint of Japan in the development of the city’s infrastructure.”

Expressing his thanks to the city’s support in his working term, Mr. Tetsuo Konaka appreciated the efforts of the city in adopting the total investment for the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro and putting forth an advance from the city’s budget on the project’s investment.

He expressed his hope that the city would promptly sign the No. 4 agreement on the project on improving the water environment, while JICA would continue to support the city’s project on upgrading the old water sewerage and discuss other new projects./.
