Ho Chi Minh city’s leader urges increased cooperation with Indonesia

Appreciating the contributions of Mr. Jean Anes and his Consulate General in reinforcing and developing the relationship between Ho Chi Minh city and Indonesia in particular and between Vietnam and Indonesia in general, Mr. Phong noted that in trade, the two-way turnover between Ho Chi Minh city and Indonesia is expected to reach some USD1 billion in 2017. As of October, there were 29 Indonesian projects worth USD26.7 million in Ho Chi Minh city, while the Vietnamese city welcomed some 43,000 visitors from Indonesia.

According to the Chairman, the direct flight from Indonesia’s Jakarta to Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh city, which will open in February 2018, will further increase the relationship between the two countries, especially in tourism.

He added he hoped that Mr. Jean Anes would continue to support the relationship between Indonesia and Vietnam in his new working position.

For his part, Indonesian Consul General said he believed there would be a remarkably increase in the number of Vietnamese and Indonesian tourists with the direct Jakarta - Ho Chi Minh city flight.

Adding that Indonesia pays attention to investing in Ho Chi Minh city and Vietnam’s southern localities like Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh, he expressed his hope that Ho Chi Minh city’s leaders would continue to support Indonesian businesses’ operations.

During the reception, Mr. Phong presented the Indonesian diplomat the city’s medal, recognizing his contributions to the Ho Chi Minh city - Indonesia relationship./.
