Meeting marks 55th year of Vietnam - Laos diplomatic relationship

On July 27th, a meeting was held at the Laos’ Savannakhet province International Trade Exhibition and Convention Centre to mark the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam - Laos diplomatic relationship (September 5th) and the 40th year since the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Attending the meeting, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang said that the relationship between Vietnam and Laos was tempered thousands of years ago during the two nations’ history of national founding and protection, especially after the relationship established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Cayson Phomvihan, and being fostered by ensuing generations of the two countries’ Party and State leaders as well as the two peoples, becoming an invaluable asset of the two countries.

“We pledge to maintain and protect the special relationship between the two countries like protecting our eyes; determine together with the Lao Party, State and people to deepen the relationship, considering it an invaluable asset which will be passed to the next generations,” he said.

On the same day, Ho Chi Minh city’s working delegation to Laos attended the Savannakhet - Ho Chi Minh city friendship exhibition fair 2017.

So far, Vietnamese businesses have set up 430 projects worth over USD5.1 billion in Laos, ranking 2nd among 52 countries and territories investing in Laos.

Earlier, the delegation paid homage at President Ho Chi Minh Statue and laid a wreath at President Cayson Phomvihan Statue./.
