During the visit, the Party General Secretary was granted the Doctor Honoris Causa title in political science by the University in recognition of his important contributions to Vietnam’s nation construction and development, as well as practical and theoretical views. The event, which was attended by Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Politburo member and First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, together with many leaders of Cuban ministries and sectors, was broadcast live on Cuban national radio and television.

The UH, the most ancient and famous university of Cuba and a leading one in Latin America, has experienced the 290 years of development. It is not only connected with Cuban history and outstanding names of the Cuban revolution, especially leader Fidel Castro, it is also linked with generations of Vietnamese students in the 1960s.

Marking the 290th birthday of the university, the Party General Secretary sent teachers and students best regards, expressing his thanks to the university for the title, considering it a vivid demonstration of the Cuban Party, State and people for Vietnam.

He also appreciated the university for helping train different generations of Vietnamese students, with many of them having become leaders or leading experts in production and scientific research.

He also spent time answering students’ questions on inheriting leader Fidel Castro’s and President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology for further promoting the relationship between the Cuban and Vietnamese nations in the current period, for boosting cooperation in diverse areas, and on Vietnam’s renewal process./.
