During the visit, having talks with First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Mauri Pekkarinen on November 13th, Mr. Chinh showed his pleasure at visiting Finland in the year when the two countries are celebrating the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic relations; highlighted Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements after 30 years of renewal, and appreciated the development of the bilateral relationship.

He suggested that the two sides should increase cooperation in the development of alternative energy, forest industry, information technology, education and training and innovation, adding he hoped that Finland will support Vietnam’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2020-2021, and promote Vietnam-Finland relations to make them deeper and more practical.

Expressing his thanks to the Finnish Parliament, Government and people for their assistance for Vietnam over the past years, especially through development projects, he said that Vietnam wishes to receive more official development assistance from Finland in the future for realising its sustainable development goals and responding to global climate change.

Appreciating Vietnam’s great achievements during 30 years of renewal, Mr. Mauri Pekkarinen showed his joy with the development of bilateral relationship, affirming that Finland supports cooperative relations between Vietnam and the EU, especially the early signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA)

The two sides also discussed international issues of mutual interest, including the East Sea issue, agreeing that all disputes should be settled by peaceful measures in line with international laws, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Earlier, Mr. Chinh had a meeting with Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintila, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance and Academy of Finland, and Chairman of the Finnish Communist Party Juha Pekka Vaisanen./.
