The International Bazaar 2016 of five member nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) having Embassies in Mexico, including Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand, was held in Lincoln Park in the capital of Mexico on December 10th.

The bazaar aimed to enhance and promote the image of countries and peoples in the ASEAN community with the Mexican people.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the bazaar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan confirmed the determination of ASEAN countries to build a strong community based on pillars of political-security, economy and culture-society.

She also stressed the bazaar was an opportunity for countries to promote cultural exchange and the image of countries and people of member countries, while improving understanding and further strengthening the friendly and cooperative relations between ASEAN and Mexico.

At the bazaar, art performances, fashion shows, photo exhibitions, handicraft products and products bearing the national identity, especially traditional dishes of the ASEAN member countries, attracted a large number of visitors.

In particular, Vietnam’s cultural space attracted Mexican and international friends with unique handicraft products, compelling cuisine, traditional costume such as traditional long dress and conical hat, and travel brochures.

Mr. Sergio Ley López, Head of Pacific-Asian Enterprise Department under the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology appreciated the cultural significance of the bazaar and stressed that the bazaar would contribute to promoting understanding between ASEAN member countries and Mexico.

According to organizers of the bazaar, part of the funds collected from this bazaar would be dedicated to charitable activities.
