Earthquake in Italy: No information about Vietnamese people in distress

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake occurred in central Italy, near the city of Perugia, and killed 21 people on August 24th.

The earthquake destroyed half of the town of Amatrice. The Italian Government immediately directed the civil defence agency to take measures to ensure safety and help people.

Immediately after receiving the news, the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs phoned to officials in charge of citizen protection of the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy in order to learn about the situation. The Consular Department also proposed the Vietnamese Embassy contact authorities of the host country to get information about any Vietnamese citizen affected by the earthquake or not. 

According to the preliminary information from the Embassy, the rescue work is being implemented by Italy and there now has no information about any Vietnamese people affected by the disaster. The Embassy is still closely monitoring the situation of the earthquake./.
