Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Ngo Thi Hoa emphasized that with the support of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese, the Embassy has organized the first Vietnamese language class in the Netherlands to help overseas Vietnamese families maintain their mother tongue among young children, young people who don’t know Vietnamese, and improve Vietnamese communication between their children and the overseas Vietnamese community, encourage them to look toward and contribute to the homeland as they grow up.

She also expected the class would have Vietnamese cultural activities so that the children can watch, listen and enjoy Vietnamese culture through books, television and the internet.

The Ambassador desired that overseas Vietnamese families and the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the Netherlands would support the children to go to the class and encourage them to study hard. In the first lessons, the parents play an important role to help them overcome initial difficulties, integrate into the classroom, and gradually adjust to the teachers and the curriculum.

On behalf of families with children attending the class, Mr. Pham Van Dinh thanked the Embassy and the State Commission for OV Affairs for their support and presenting a special gift to the children on the occasion of mid-Autumn festival. He also affirmed that families would support their children and coordinate with the class so that their children would learn regularly and achieve good results.

During the school year 2017-2018, the class is expected to have 10 students, aged 6-16.

Through the class, the children will learn to read and write, communicate and understand Vietnamese, thereby being closer with their families, the country and looking toward their origins.

In addition to the teachers of the Embassy, Vietnamese students studying in the Netherlands will be assistant professors and teach the children in the first year./.
