Vietnam People’s Army founding anniversary marked in Myanmar

The Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22nd), 30 years of the all people’s defence day, and announced the White Paper on national defence of Vietnam on December 10th.

 Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dong, Vietnamese Defence Attaché in Myanmar, emphasized that Vietnam's all people national defense is “of the people, by the people, for the people”, adding that it is for peace, self-defense and develops in the direction of all-people, independence, autonomy, self-reliance and increasing modernity, closely combining economics with national defense and security.

Over the past 75 years, the Vietnam People's Army has gained many important achievements in building a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern army, ready to fight, and firmly defend the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Vietnam.

In terms of defense diplomacy, Vietnam has now established defense relations with more than 80 countries and international organizations, including key and important partners, and established 32 Defence Attaché Offices in 32 countries and the United Nations.

Currently, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is actively preparing for Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020 and non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2020 - 2021 term.

In recent years, the defense relationship between the Vietnamese and Myanmar militaries has grown, with regular visits by senior defense leaders and military commanders of the two countries to share views, propose measures and timely orient for defense cooperation activities.

The two sides also frequently exchange activities at all levels, thereby helping strengthen mutual trust and develop mutual understanding and friendship.

Also at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dong announced and introduced the basic contents mentioned in the White Paper 2019 on Vietnam national defence.

On this occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Luan Thuy Duong also presented a symbol of the White Paper 2019 on Vietnam national defense to Lieutenant General Min Naung, Commander of the Special Operation Area No.5 of Myanmar./.
