Vietnamese people in Fukuoka, Hiroshima march to protest China

On the afternoon of July 31st, Vietnamese people living, working or studying in Fukuoka and Hiroshima, and Japanese people loving peace, marched to ask China to respect international law and comply with the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

From Jigyo Central Park in Fukuoka, the delegation of more than 200 people in clothing with the red flag and yellow star and holding Vietnam's national flag and large banners, marched under the watch of the Fukuoka police and shouted mottoes in Japanese and English.

The marchers asked China to comply with international law and stop acts of provocation and militarization in the East Sea, rejected the baseless claims of China on the so-called "nine-dash line" and welcomed the PCA ruling on July 12th.

In front of the Consulate General of China in Fukuoka, a representative of the march read and handed over the appeal letter in three languages of Vietnamese, Japanese and English from the Vietnamese community in Fukuoka and Hiroshima to the Consul General of China. The appeal letter opposes China taking expansionist actions and militarization on the East Sea, requires China to comply with the PCA ruling and affirms Vietnam’s undisputed sovereignty over two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

The march attracted the attention of a large number of local newspaper and television outlets. Japanese people loving Vietnam also participated in the march and chanted slogans against China.

According to a report of the Vietnamese Student and Youth Association in Fukuoka and Hiroshima, the march arose the love for the homeland among Vietnamese people who are working, studying or living in Fukuoka and Hiroshima. It also attracted the attention of the local public opinion about the wrongdoings, disregard for international law and expansionist actions of China on the East Sea, as well as courting the approval and support of Japanese people for Vietnam’s viewpoint./.
