The meeting attracted hundreds of Vietnamese people and representatives of organizations and unions.

Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association to Poland Le Thiet Hung said that the overseas Vietnamese people are actively involved in the meeting to welcome the ruling of PCA on July 12th on the case of the Philippines against China's claims in the East Sea, as well as to express their feelings towards the country and the national sovereignty over the sea and islands.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, Deputy Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Poland, briefed participants on the contents and significance of the ruling. Accordingly, China’s claims to historic rights for waters within the nine-dash line are contrary to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

China has no historic title over waters of the East Sea and has no legal basis to claim historic rights to resources within the nine-dash line.

He also reported the stance of the international community and public opinion in Poland on the ruling, as well as the support of the Vietnamese community abroad for the cause of protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over the sea and islands.

The participants at the meeting also took a moment of silence in memory of those who laid down their lives for the protection of the country’s land, sea and sky./.
