Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc stressed the significance of Tet for each Vietnamese person and highlighted the overall situation of Vietnam in 2018.
He said Vietnam gained many important achievements in socio-economic development, hunger elimination and poverty reduction, innovation, integration and modernization of the country; becoming an important partner of many countries.
In terms of Vietnam-US relations, the ambassador said that over the past year, the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership continued to make new progress, creating a premise for a more prosperous 2019 to mark the 25th anniversary of normalizing relations between the two countries in 2020.
Besides, Mr. Ngoc highly appreciated and desired that overseas Vietnamese will continue to join hands to build a developing community; actively contribute to Vietnam-US relations; look towards the homeland and unanimously support the cause of construction and protection of the country.
He also thanked the overseas Vietnamese community in the US, officials working for international organizations, students and American friends for their cooperation and support for the embassy. At the same time, he wished them a happy, peaceful and prosperous new year.
Some representatives of the overseas Vietnamese and student community shared their feelings when attending the event organized by the embassy, thanking the embassy for its support and concern for the community. They affirmed that they will continue make efforts to contribute more to activities of the Vietnamese community in the US and look towards the country.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy rewarded individuals and organizations of the Vietnamese community in the US, including the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in the US and the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in Washington DC.
At the event, participants enjoyed a special art program and traditional Tet dishes of Vietnamese people./.
