(CPV) - The dissemination and final conference on the JICA-supported project for “Strengthening Medical Service in Northwest Provinces” was held in Hanoi on February 22nd.

The conference drew in representatives from JICA Vietnam Office, the Medical Service Administration (MSA) and relevant departments under the Ministry of Health (MOH), provincial Departments of Health (DOH) and provincial General Hospitals (PGH) in 27 provinces in the Northern Region including six project-target provinces of Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Yen Bai. Representatives from five central hospitals in Hanoi, namely Bach Mai, Viet-Duc, Pediatric, Obstetric and National Cancer (K) hospitals, were also among participants.

The project has established a Direction Office for Healthcare Activities (DOHA) Network among provincial general hospitals and district hospitals in five target Northwest provinces and among provincial, district hospitals and commune health stations in Hoa Binh province.

Besides, the project has contributed to enhancing management capacity of staffs of MSA-MOH, DOH and PGH who are in charge of DOHA and referral activities. Japanese experts had actively provided technical guidance on referral data analysis and interpretation which has been effectively utilized to develop plans for training courses in the framework of Continued Medical Education (CME).

It has created “DOHA Handbook” - an user-friendly guidebook which provides the staffs and leaders in charge with basic proceeding of DOHA (activities) or preparation to implementation and know-how for an effective DOHA (activities) management.

This handbook will later be distributed to all cities and provinces widely with the view to expand and disseminate the outputs achieved and lessons learnt by the project.

Among other outputs, the project has also introduced the Referral Data Management Software (RDMS) as an effective tool of referral information management, in accordance with MOH’s Circular No. 14/2014/TT-BYT on “Referral at medical facilities”.

Other two similar conferences to share the outputs of the project will be held on March 1st and March 3rd respectively in Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang cities, respectively./.
