(CPV) - A series of activities to raise public awareness on the urgent need and addressing climate change will be held in Hanoi on September 24th-30th in the context of the EU climate diplomacy week.

The Week is a time, where EU Delegations around the world reach out to communities and partner organisations, highlighting positive global action and collaboration on climate change. This year sees two events: the first one from June 18th-24th and the second one from September 24th-30th.

As planned, there is a workshop for 15 cities in Vietnam on climate action planning and targets, a seminar on circular economy for private sector and a high-level discussion on climate change. All these activities aim to engage central and local authorities, academics, civil society organisations to share experieneces and explore avenues for further collaborative actions.

The EU is stepping up its international cooperation and support to partners outside the EU on fighting climate change. This is demonstrated through policy dialogues, capacity - building projects and climate finance.

In Vietnam, the EU is supporting energy transition and, supporting the promotion of renewable energy, through policy dialogue as well as through concrete action such as training, advocacy and, as well as investment in the renewable energy sector in cooperation with national EU member states development banks.

Beyond energy, the European Investment Bank also contributes to the financing of Mass Rapid Transit systems that will save important levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) in the transport sector. Besides, it provides financial support for climate adaptation, in the Red River delta, in the Mekong delta area, and in Central provinces together with EU development banks.

The EU is also investing in climate-related education. In Vietnam, under an ERASMUS+ funded project, universities from Italy, Poland and Cyprus have been working together with three Vietnamese universities to build courses on renewable energy systems for students.

As part of the project, the eight best students were selected to study in Europe and witness examples of solar, wind and other renewable energy projects. They came back with some great stories to share, and some new ideas about how to bring more renewable energy solutions to the nation.

''Fighting climate change is a priority in our partnership with Vietnam. We promote in particular Vietnam's energy transition, including through substantial financial support, as the energy sector is key for economic growth, but also the biggest emitter GHG'', said Ambassador - Head of EU Delegation to Vietnam, Mr. Bruno Angelet./.
