The information was announced during a regular press conference on the city’s socio-economic situation held by the city People’s Committee on June 15th.

According to Tran Quang Lam, Deputy Director of the city Department of Transport, the pilot operation of the first river bus route, which connects district 1 and Thu Duc district, will be carried out late this June, preparing for official operation in July.

Meanwhile, the second bus route, which connects district 1 and district 8, will not be completed until early 2018 as it crosses Cau Mong area where a dyke preventing tides is being built.

Discussing difficulties of the transport sector, Vo Van Hoan, Head of Office of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, confirmed that as waterway buses would help reduce overland traffic congestion, the city leaders were determined to develop the waterway bus routes so that residents could use them as soon as possible, admitting that it was more difficult to build waterway infrastructure, including building river bus stations convenient for travelers and with services for waiting passengers, especially measures to ensure safety for residents./.
