6.6-magnitude earthquake strikes Russia

An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale hit Kamchatka Krai in eastern Russia, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

It was initially recorded with a magnitude of 7.0 but the USGS later revised it to 6.6.
The quake occurred at a depth of 22.8 kilometers at 4:09 GMT and the epicenter was located in an enclave in the Bering Sea, 78 km north-northeast of Ust-Kamchatsk and 134 km east-northeast of Kliuchi.
The Sakhalin Tsunami Centre has warned that the earthquake could possibly trigger local tsunami waves of up to 1.5 metres.
But according to the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre there is no imminent threat./.
