H5N8 type flu found in Paju

Authorities of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on June 6th has confirmed that the H5N8 strain was detected in Paju city, Gyeonggi.

This matches the virus detected earlier in a poultry farm in Gunsan, North Jeolla province.

The Paju farm was found to have brought in 500 rare Ogol chickens, or black chickens, from the Gunsan farm on May 23rd.

Poultry from Gunsan was sold to eight cities and counties including Busan, Jeju, Paju and Yangsan. A total of 31,913 chickens from 18 related farms have been culled so far, regardless of their test results.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs also confirmed a case of highly pathogenic avian flu in Busan and Jeju Island./.
