Khaltmaa Battulga sworn in as Mongolian President

Khaltmaa Battulga of the Mongolian Democratic Party (DP) has been sworn in as the President of the country.

The inauguration, held at the State Palace, was attended by Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Jugnee Amarsanaa, and parliament and government members, among others.

Mr. Khaltmaa Battulga, 54, won 50.6 percent of the vote.

Taking the oath, Battulga pledged to respect and protect the rights and freedom of Mongolian citizens, "observe and protect the Constitution of Mongolia, protect sovereignty and independence, security and integrity of the state, and truly serve the people".

Over 1.2 million people cast their ballots in the seventh presidential election of the resource-rich country, with a turnout of 60.48 percent.

The Mongolian President serves a four-year term and can be re-elected only once./.
