Attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr Mnangagwa said elections will be free and fair and that he would accept the result if he loses.

He was sworn into office two months ago after Mr Mugabe resigned.

"As a nation, party and government, we are looking forward to very peaceful, transparent and harmonized elections in July this year," President Mnangagwa told reporters after a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on March 17th.

Mnangagwa, 76, said the elections would be free of the violence that gripped previous polls and which was one of the reasons for strained relations between Zimbabwe and the West.

“I have already invited all political parties in Zimbabwe to a roundtable where we all commit ourselves to non-violence,” he added./.
