Tropical storm Nesat has hit Taiwan (China), leaving 81 people injured and destroying hundreds of buildings.

At least 8,760 people were evacuated from the areas most severely affected by Typhoon Nesat as of July 29th, Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported.

Typhoon Nesat made landfall on the northeast coast of Taiwan with maximum sustained winds of 137km/h and gusts of up to 173km/h, according to the National Weather Bureau.

More than 400 flights have been cancelled since July 29th, and more than half a million households were left without electricity, according to statistics published by the Central Disaster Emergency Operation Centre.

The deadliest typhoon to strike Taiwan in the past decade was Typhoon Morakot, which set off landslides in 2009 that left nearly 700 people dead./.
