The event is held as part of the Festival for Peace 2024.

According to Nhan Dan Newspaper, the 17th Parallel along the Ben Hai River was the temporary boundary between North and South Vietnam after the Geneva Accords were signed in July 1954.

Given this, Quang Tri was also the target of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of bombs during wartime. Hien Luong Bridge spanning this river symbolised the aspiration for national reunification.

The programme will gather many popular artists and vocalists, such as Anh Tho, Trong Tan, Tung Duong, Van Khanh, and Bach Tra.

The artists will bring to the stage songs and dances praising the heroic fighting spirit of the Vietnamese army and people during the country’s struggle for national independence and freedom, such as ‘Bai Ca Hy Vong’ (Song of Hope), ‘Xa Khoi’ (Heading to the Sea), ‘Giai Phong Mien Nam’ (Liberating the South), and ‘Cau Ho Ben Bo Hien Luong’ (Melodies sung from the bank of Hien Luong River).

The programme will also feature short stage plays, reportages, and video clips recalling the hardship of Vietnamese soldiers during wartime.

At the programme, in coordination with businesses and donors, Nhan Dan Newspaper will hand over 10 social houses, worth 50 million VND each, to revolutionary contributors of Vinh Linh District.

Hundreds of gifts and scholarships will also be presented to disadvantaged children and poor families in the district on the occasion./.
