(CPV ) – Diverse cultural activities will take place in many localities in Vietnam throughout lunar New Year (Tet).

Hanoi to launch firework displays in 30 locations

Fireworks will light up the skies over 30 locations in all 30 districts and town of Hanoi during the upcoming lunar New Year’s Eve on February 9.

The 15-minute firework shows, to be funded by businesses and organisations, will start from 0:00 on January 22 (Lunar New Year’s Eve).

Hanoi Book Street to open throughout Tet

Diverse activities will be held during Spring Book Street programme throughout lunar New Year (Tet), from February 5 to February 14.

The book street is being held by the Hanoi Book Street by the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district to encourage reading culture in the community and create a cultural space for local residents and tourists to enjoy at the start of the Year of the Dragon.

Aside from existing stores, more book stalls and an area of entertainment activities for children were also added to the street.

Coming to the programme, visitors can read and buy a number of the latest books, newspapers, and other types of publications, meet authors and receive their autographs, and join authors in discussions about various topics.

Visitors can learn about the art of calligraphy and writing Tet decoration couplets while children can paint pictures and take a turn at making traditional toys. A book reading space and an exhibition of folk paintings are available throughout the event.

On this occasion, performances of both traditional and modern singing and dancing, children’s fashion show, will be held during the event.

The programme is open from 8am to 10pm.

Southeast Asia’s biggest drone light show

A drone light show expected to set a Southeast Asian record is scheduled to take place by the side of Ho Tay (West Lake) in Hanoi on lunar New Year’s Eve on February 9.

The show, with the participation of 2,024 drones, will be organised by the People’s Committee of Tay Ho district, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), and the Vietnam Public Bank (PVcomBank) in celebration of the New Year, the district Party Committee said.

It will officially take place at the Van Cao T-junction by the side of West Lake at 11:30pm on February 9. The audience can gather on Nguyen Dinh Thi and Trich Sai streets to enjoy the performance.

Shortly after that, high-altitude fireworks will be set off nearby from 0am to 0:15am on February 10, the first day of the Year of the Dragon.

People can watch the light show early at its final rehearsal at 9pm on February 7.

Vietnam Museum of Ethnology to celebrate Tet with diverse activities

The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology on the outskirts of Hanoi is set to hold its annual Tet celebrations to mark the start of the Lunar New Year, from February 2 to 18, that will feature art performances, food, and folk games, with the participation of representatives of ethnic groups from across the country.

The opening activity of the programme will be a ritual of erecting “Neu” tree, a tall bamboo pole believed to be able to ward off evil so that the souls of the ancestors can enjoy Tet with their family members, the most important festival held each year in the Vietnamese calendar.

Visitors will have the chance to learn more about Vietnamese customs during Tet, the biggest traditional holiday of the year, by taking part in various activities, including making Chung cake (square glutinous rice cake), calligraphic works, Dong Ho folk paintings, and water puppet shows.

Furthermore, children will be able to join in a variety of folk games, including tug of war, walking on stilts, còn (cloth ball) throwing, chess playing, and stick pushing. They will also be able to create their own folk toys, including Tò he (toy figurine) and pinwheels.

From February 13 to 16, or between the fourth day and the seventh day of the first lunar month, the museum will hold art performances such as Ai Lao singing and dancing, calligraphy, gong ceremonies of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands region, as well as water puppetry of the Kinh majority.

About 40 artisans from Hoi An Ancient City are expected to bring art performances to the event on February 17 - 18.

Spring Calligraphy Festival at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi

The 2024 Spring Calligraphy Festival is taking place at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi from February 3 to February 19 to honour the art and local tradition of writing.

This year’s festival will feature 40 calligraphers from Hanoi and many other provinces and cities around the country.

The year 2024 marks the tenth edition of the spring calligraphy festival. Through calligraphic works, the calligraphers have spread the good values of the nation's culture.

Within the framework of the festival, a calligraphy exhibition displays 50 calligraphic works in the front yard and 50 works around Van Lake.

The exhibition uses light and writing to create an attractive visual art installation space for viewers. It was conceptualised, built, designed, arranged and displayed by calligrapher Xuan Nhu Vu Thanh Tung.

In addition to calligraphy writing, a wide variety of activities are held during the festival, including the reproduction of the traditional exam space, the introduction of craft villages and products, and traditional art programmes.

Ho Chi Minh City  to launch firework displays in 11 locations

Fireworks will light up the skies over 11 locations throughout Ho Chi Minh City during the upcoming lunar New Year’s Eve on February 9.

Two of the 11 locations will feature high-level fireworks displays, namely the Saigon River Tunnel area in Thu Duc City and the Ben Duoc Memorial Temple area in Cu Chi District.

For the remaining nine locations, low-level fireworks will be displayed.

They are Dam Sen Park in District 11, the revolutionary traditional area of the general offensive and uprising of 1968 Mau Than Spring in Binh Chanh District, Rung Sac Square in Can Gio District, the Ben Noc Memorial Temple in Thu Duc City, Cultural Park in Go Vap District, the Nga Ba Giong Historical Site in Hoc Mon District, Public Administration Center’s Square in District 7, Binh Tri Dong residential area in Binh Tan District, and Cultural House in Cu Chi District./.
