(CPV) - Pho is a traditional dish and the pride of Vietnamese cuisine, continuously topping lists of the world’s most delicious dishes. Pho gradually has its own position after Vietnamese people’s tireless journey to bring their homeland’s cuisine to the world.

Surpassing many delicious dishes in the world

Vietnamese beef Pho has been recognized by the news channel CNN among the top 20 soups globally in its 2024 list of best soups. It surpassed soups from famous cuisines such as France and Russia.

Accordingly, the news agency quoted Andrea Nguyen, author of The Pho Cookbook, assessing that Pho is among Vietnam’s most recognised culinary exports.

And while today’s Pho restaurants serve a wide range of flavors, beef is the original. By 1930, Nguyen explained, the soup was served with slices of raw beef cooked gently in the broth.

Visitors to Vietnam can easily find Pho at restaurants ranging from popular roadside shops and local markets to luxury restaurants and 5-star hotels. There are many versions of Pho such as Pho with wine sauce, and chicken Pho, but beef Pho is still the most popular.

In November 2023, Taste Atlas, a website known as the “atlas of world cuisine”, also introduced the 10 dishes with the best meat broth in the world based on votes from 5,232 culinary experts and diners across the world.

Accordingly, beef Pho ranked third with 4.6 points and is described as a dish with broth simmered from beef bones, beef shank, oxtail and seasoned with spices such as cinnamon, anise, cloves and cardamom.

Rare beef pho in the North ranked 5th. According to Taste Atlas, this version differs from the above version in that it uses a combination of well-cooked beef and rare beef together. This meat is cooked directly in the bowl with hot broth. Pho broth is made from bones, meat, ginger, onions, star anise, cloves, cinnamon and seasoned with fish sauce and sugar.

In both versions, diners can eat with bean sprouts, lemon, fresh chili, chili garlic vinegar, chili sauce or hoisin sauce. Adding these spices is not mandatory, it depends on personal taste. However, side dishes help make the bowl of pho more flavorful.

Previously, Pho was also included in the list of “40 delicious dishes of the world that we should try once in our lives” by Business Insider.

Pho is famous in five continents

Not only does it appear on newspaper pages with compliments, or it is ranked among the top delicious dishes, Vietnamese Pho also travels to many different lands to honor its homeland’s culinary culture.
