The event will be inaugurated on December 4th with the screening of the Peruvian film "Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon," directed by José Zelada. This captivating film tells the story of the growth and emotional development journey of Ainbo, a 13-year-old girl, as she embarks on an adventure to save her village from an ecological catastrophe. Through its story, the animated film aims to convey valuable messages about the importance of environmental preservation, true friendship that transcends social differences, and self-confidence as a fundamental element in personal growth. This film has been recognized as the Best Animated Film at the 2022 Platino Awards.
After the screening of the peruvian film, the Chilean short film titled "Bear Story" by director Gabriel Osorio will be presented. Inspired by a true story (the exile of Osorio's grandfather during the military government in Chile), this emotional short film tells the life of a lonely bear who portrays his past through a diorama that he constructs himself. The film depicts the man's longing to return home and was awarded the Academy Award for "Best Animated Short Film" in 2016, making it the first Chilean production to receive this recognition.
On December 5th, movie enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience the Colombian animated film "Encanto," brought to life by Walt Disney Animation Studios, which draws inspiration from Colombia's rich culture and biodiversity. Encanto tells the story of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house located in a bright and beautiful village called Encanto. The magic of Encanto has given all the children in the family unique powers, from the ability to heal with food to super athletic strength and the power to communicate with animals, except for the young Mirabel. But when the family's magic is threatened, Mirabel must embark on a journey to find the lost key that will keep the magic of Encanto alive, with her wisdom and family love. This film was also nominated in three different categories at the 94th Academy Awards and won the award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2022.
The film festival will conclude with the screening of the Mexican short film "Mi Abuela Matilde" (My Grandmother Matilde), directed by Miguel Anaya Borja. This charming animated film explores the relationship between an elderly grandmother and her granddaughter. Young María is left in the care of her grandmother, who is eager to teach her practical skills that will help her become self-reliant. Their relationship becomes tense until the grandmother recalls a secret she has kept since her own childhood.
Mexico stands out as one of the leading producers of animated films in Latin America, particularly in the use of stop motion technique. This short film is one of the most prominent and representative examples of Mexico's use of this cinematic technique.
