It quoted the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) information saying that orders of aquatic products, particularly shrimp and tra fish, from China have returned since early April.
VASEP forecast that Vietnam’s tra fish exports to China may surge by 40 - 50 percent in the coming months as the latter’s efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus prove effective.
The Republic of Korea, another key market for Vietnam, has also made significant progress in containing COVID-19, signalling demand will rebound soon.
VASEP expects that if the pandemic is brought under control in the second quarter of this year, production will return to normal in the second half, which is likely to be a “golden stage” for Vietnam to boost shipments of agricultural products.

Health Ministers from major economies in the G20 started an online meeting on April 19th to discuss joint measures to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, in which Vietnam proposed measures for international cooperation in the fight against the pandemic.
The meeting was attended by leaders of Spain, Singapore, Jordan and Switzerland, as well as major organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank (WB), according to the G20 statement.
Attending the meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong presented the strategies that Vietnam is applying to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and minimize its impact on the socio-economy. At the same time, Vietnam shares information and provides medical equipment and devices to other countries.
According to Mr. Cuong, G20 needs action to cope with the COVID-19 crisis.
First of all, Vietnam calls on enhanced dialogue and cooperation mechanisms to cope with COVID-19; address common challenges for peace and stability in the region and around the world; promote economic cooperation; work closely, share experiences, and support each other in disease prevention and control; and provide support to overseas communities to help them stablise their lives and have enough resources for preventing the disease.
Regarding research and development, as a specialized health agency of the UN, WHO should continue to take the lead in mobilizing and coordinating efforts, especially in the development of vaccines, medicines, and allocating medical equipment.
Finally, Vietnam calls for strengthening preparedness and the capacity of the International Health Regulations (IHR)./.
