Vietnam has been named among the Top 5 most attractive destinations in Asia, reported the Voice of Vietnam based on the list by renowned Canadian travel site The Travel.

Accordingly, the country ranked fifth in the list, and it is one of the most peaceful countries in the world.

The magazine noted that Vietnam has been developing with both youthful and dynamic vitality. It boasts numerous majestic and beautiful natural wonders.

The Travel mentioned limestone islands in unique shapes located in Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha Cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, and charming rivers throughout the Mekong Delta region.

Furthermore, vast rice fields and typical floating markets help to increase the attractiveness of this top regional tourist destination, it said.

The Travel stressed that Vietnam is not only home to an array of natural beauty, but it also attracts tourists through its architectural works with century-old historical and cultural imprints.

Rounding off the list are Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, and Laos.

SEA Games 32: Vietnam bag first gold medal

Female chess players Pham Thanh Phuong Thao and Ton Nu Hong An brought first gold medal to Vietnam at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) after topping the Ouk Chaktrang women's doubles event on May 2, reported Vietnam News Agency.

Ouk chaktrang, or Cambodian chess, is the first sports that opens for competition at SEA Games 32, hosted by Cambodia. The competitions are taking place from April 29 to May 9 with seven events.

The Vietnamese Ouk Chaktrang team comprises 11 players.

SEA Games 32 is scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh and four other localities of Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep from May 5-17. It is expected to welcome over 12,400 athletes, coaches and staff from regional sports delegations.

This year, Vietnam will compete in 30 out of total 36 sports at the games, aiming for 90-120 gold medals to enter the top three on the medal tally.

As host of SEA Games 31 in 2021, Vietnam topped the medal table with 205 golds. Thailand came second with 92 and Indonesia third with 69.

Vietnamese tourists flock to Cambodia ahead of SEA Games

Recent days has seen passengers travelling from Vietnam to Cambodia by air increase dramatically ahead of SEA Games 32, the Voice of Vietnam qouted Tran Minh Hoan, branch manager of Vietnam Airlines in Cambodia saying that.

Hoan cited statistics of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia, saying the number of foreign flights to Cambodia has increased 25% over the past days, including those from Vietnam.

To ensure the highest quality and support for the Vietnamese sporting delegation to Cambodia, he said Vietnam Airlines has implemented numerous promotions, including offering free 1,000 kg of luggage for the delegation, as well as booking support and flexibly flight schedules for local athletes. In addition, the airline plans to increase flights to serve the travel needs of local fans.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Sao Sokha, vice president of the national organising committee for the 32nd SEA Games (CAMSOC) said about 20,000 Vietnamese fans and Vietnamese expatriates in Cambodia have registered with Cambodian authorities to watch games involving Vietnamese athletes.

The vice president stressed that SEA Games 32 is expected to welcome up to hundreds of thousands of tourists to Cambodia.

Vietnam has sent a 1,003-strong sporting delegation to the SEA Games 32, including about 700 athletes.

SEA Games 32 will be held in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep in Cambodia from May 5 to 17.

Vietnam has set a target of winning 90 to 120 gold medals to make the top three of the medal tally.

Vietnam topped the medal table with 205 golds when it hosted SEA Games 31 in 2021.

Thousands revel in dances of five continents at Carnival Ha Long 2023

Thousands of local people and visitors reveled in exciting dances of five continents at Carnival Ha Long 2023 held along Vo Nguyen Giap street in Ha Long City on May 1 evening, reported the Voice of Vietnam.

This was the 15th year this event has taken place, making Ha Long Carnival a unique event of Quang Ninh. It marked the start of the summer tourism season in the city and other localities in Quang Ninh.

A series of special art forms led by traditional music and dances and elaborately choreographed by experienced artists were performed on the stage.

The festival comprised four parts: an opening ceremony, stage performances, a street dance parade, and a fireworks display.

It was a festival of rendezvous and cultural exchanges through dances, presenting a chance for not only professional artists but also locals and tourists to easily join as a dancer.

Besides music melodies, songs, and dances, the carnival was highlighted by a 1km-long street parade, with the participation of more than 2,000 professional and amateur artists, along with carnival floats shaped in the form of sails, corals, sea shells, and rocky mountains.

Carnival Ha Long 2023 is part of activities taking place in Ha Long from April 29 to May 3 to celebrate National Reunification Day (April 30), and May Day (May 1) and welcome the summer tourism season in Ha Long.

Other activities include an art photo exhibition, a modern dance festival, Duc Tran Quoc Nghien Temple festival, a kite flying festival, a photo contest themed Ha Long - Heritage City, a street music and art festival, and folk dance performances./.
