Japan continues COVID-19 vaccine aid to Vietnam

In a press conference on September 14, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi announced that Japan would give an additional 400,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Vietnam. The vaccines will be transported to Vietnam after the preparation is completed.

Earlier, in June and July, Japan gave aid of some 3 million doses to Vietnam, before an additional 80,000 doses announced on September 3 and transported to Vietnam on September 9.

The amount announced on September 14 has brought Japan’s total donation to 3.58 million doses for Vietnam. 

According to the Japanese Foreign Minister, so far, Japan has given out more than 23 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Japan to countries in Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Pacific islands, he said.

Additionally, Japan has pledged USD1 billion and 30 million doses to the COVAX programme, overseen by the GAVI alliance and the World Health Organisation (WHO)./.
