According to Ambassador Le Quy Quynh, Vietnam and Malaysia have cooperated effectively in many fields over the recent years, from trade and investment, education to security, defense and people-to-people exchanges. Bilateral trade turnover annually reaches nearly USD15 billion, while cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the two countries continues to be strengthened. “More and more Vietnamese tourists travel to Malaysia while Vietnam has also welcomed more Malaysian tourists in recent years,” he said.

Talking about the bilateral relationship, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia said that the two countries had had a long-standing friendship with good cooperation in many fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973. He emphasized that over the past 40 years, the bilateral relationship had developed strongly, especially with the two countries’ agreement to establish a strategic partnership in 2015. He expressed his trust that on the basis of strategic partnership, the Vietnam - Malaysia relationship would continue to prosper in the coming time.

Noting that the year 2020 is an important milestone for both countries, as Vietnam assumes the two roles of President of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, while Malaysia is the Chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the ambassador assessed that the two countries, together with other ASEAN member countries, have made efforts to build a united community, contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

He affirmed that Vietnam would continue to create favorable conditions for Malaysian businesses and investors in Vietnam, and the two sides would continue to promote cooperation in food technology and car manufacturing. “Vietnam is ready to work with Malaysia in supporting industries, developing smart city, cooperating in high-tech agriculture and other areas of Malaysia’s strengths,” he added.

Ambassador Le Quy Quynh expected the Malaysian Government to continue facilitating Vietnamese delegations to visit, learn and exchange experiences in fields where Malaysia has strength like urban planning and economic development; and vice versa, Vietnam would provide similar conditions for Malaysian delegations./.
