At the meeting, ADB Country Director in Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty thanked the Hanoi City People's Committee for their support and facilitation over the past time for the urban railway project No. 3 (Nhon – Hanoi railway station), keeping the project on track.
Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty affirmed that, within the framework of implementing sustainable transport, railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are always given the highest priority.
Referring to the initiative of the program to create an attractive city for investment that ADB and Hanoi started discussing since the end of 2022, Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty expected that the two sides would soon sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, emphasizing that this will be an important step for ADB to launch support actions for Hanoi within the framework of the initiative. The ADB Country Director for Vietnam expressed his hope that the initiative can help the city further promote its investment attraction, and improve capacity to tackle climate change challenges.
Referring to the transport infrastructure projects with the participation of ADB, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh mentioned many existing problems, and emphasized that the implementation of transport infrastructure projects is Hanoi's major service, therefore, it must be implemented synchronously and effectively in the coming time.
The Chairman of the Hanoi City People's Committee hoped that the coming time donors and investors will join the city government in reforming the project operation process, drastically increasing productivity, shortening the construction schedule, and putting the projects into operation soon to serve people's travel, and development of traffic and trade in the city.
Affirming his support for the initiative on the program to develop Hanoi into a city worth investing in, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that the capital's agencies are actively completing necessary procedures and proceeding to sign cooperation documents as proposed by ADB leaders in Vietnam.
Agreeing with the views of the Chairman of the City People's Committee, the ADB Country Director in Vietnam said that these are the necessary reforms to ensure successful cooperation projects. He affirmed that he will continue to promote and strengthen cooperation with Hanoi city during his term./.
