Hanoi interested in boosting cooperation with Swiss localities

(CPV) - Hanoi wants to promote cooperation with Bern state and Zurich city (Switzerland) in potential fields such as tourism, security, high technology, urban planning, innovation, and wastewater treatment.

Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, led a delegation from Hanoi on a working visit to Switzerland on September 8-11.

During the visit, the delegation had meetings and worked with Chairman of the Executive Council of the State of Bern Philippe Müller, and Mayor of Bern city Alec von Graffenried.

The delegation attended the Vietnam-Switzerland Trade, Investment and Science and Technology Cooperation Seminar in Zurich city, attended the 78th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Bern, met the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, worked with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland.

During a working session with Chairman of the Bern State Executive Council Philippe Müller, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh affirmed his view of valuing the relationship between Vietnam and Switzerland, expressing his wish that the two countries build programs to help bilateral relations become more in-depth and highly effective.

At the same time, Hanoi wishes to promote friendly relations and cooperation with Bern based on recognizing the potential and many similarities between the two sides.

Accordingly, he requested the Bern State Executive Council to encourage local agencies and businesses to strengthen connections with Hanoi city agencies and businesses, especially in Bern's strong areas such as tourism, security, high technology, urban planning and innovation; and called for investment in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and seizing cooperation opportunities when the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and EFTA was signed.

He said he is interested in wastewater treatment in Bern, asking the Swiss side to support information on solutions, as well as assigning Hanoi agencies to continue to coordinate, exchange, research and propose specific models and solutions in the coming time.

The two sides agreed to cooperate and exchange experiences in the field of preserving and promoting world cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO in the two localities.

In Zurich city, the delegation attended the Vietnam-Switzerland Trade, Investment and Science and Technology Cooperation Seminar.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh emphasized that Switzerland is currently one of Vietnam's important partners in many fields, with the highlight being economic cooperation.

For Hanoi city, Switzerland is a traditional and important partner, with outstanding cooperation results in many fields, especially in the field of investment.

He affirmed that Hanoi will create the best conditions for investors, including Swiss investors, to invest and do long-term and stable business./.
