As many as 44,000 catfish and 330,000 aquatic breeds released into Saigon River

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) on April 1 released 44,000 catfish and 330,000 freshwater aquatic breeds such as giant freshwater shrimp and perch fish into the Saigon River at Bach Dang Wharf.

The activity aims to regenerate and develop aquatic resources. These aquatic breeds were contributed by organizations, individuals, monks and nuns, Buddhists, laity and believers.

HCMC has recently released a total of 1 ton of large fish, 125,000 giant freshwater shrimp, and 269,000 fish of many types to celebrate the 64 years of the traditional day of Vietnam's fisheries industry (April 1, 1959 - April 1, 2023).

Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries Nguyen Quang Hung emphasized that protecting aquatic resources is an urgent requirement, and is the responsibility and obligation of the entire people, of all levels and sectors.

According to Director of HCMC Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Dinh Minh Hiep, the protection, regeneration and development of aquatic resources not only contributes to stabilizing the lives and livelihoods of fishermen, but also contributes to the protection of biodiversity, environment, making the rivers and canals of the city more vital, the city environment cleaner and greener, and the spiritual life of the people more and more rich, meeting the goals of rapid and sustainable city development.

Through the annual activity, HCMC also encourages people to catch fish responsibly and join hands to protect the environment./.
