Talking at the meeting, Mr. Hoan said that Canada currently ranks 22nd out of 117 countries and territories investing in Ho Chi Minh City with 113 projects worth about USD130 million. The trade turnover between the two sides reached about USD630 million in 2022, an increase of more than 30% compared to 2021. However, the results of economic, trade and investment cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Canada are still very modest compared to potential cooperation between the two sides.
Therefore, Mr. Hoan expressed his wish in the coming time to further promote cooperation with Canadian localities, including British Columbia, especially in trade and investment. According to Mr. Hoan, leaders of the two localities need to strengthen cooperation and create more favorable opportunities for the business communities of the two localities to meet and seek cooperation and business opportunities. “Ho Chi Minh City is willing to work closely with British Columbia province in the areas that Ho Chi Minh City is interested in and the Canadian side has strengths in green development, such as human resource training and waste treatment,” he said.
Minister Jagrup Brar expressed his impression of Ho Chi Minh City's development potential and said that British Columbia and Ho Chi Minh City have made good strides in trade relations, contributing to the common development of economic relations between two countries. Canada and Vietnam have a lot of potential for economic cooperation, especially in the field of climate change adaptation, agriculture and forestry, and the good relationship between the two peoples will be a good foundation for closer ties between British Columbia and Ho Chi Minh City in the future.
He affirmed that the soon-to-be-opened Trade-Investment Office of British Columbia in Ho Chi Minh City not only shows the good relationship between the two localities, but also expresses the desire and determination of the province in further promoting the economic, trade and investment cooperation relationship with Ho Chi Minh City, especially in the fields of interest and potential development of the two sides./.
