The statue, built on an area of over 10,000 square meters with a capital of USD500,000, belongs to the project to restore friendship statutes in Cambodian localities under the sponsorship of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence.
Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, Chief of Battambang province Chan Saphol confirmed that the great contribution of the Vietnamese voluntary soldiers in helping Cambodia escape from the previous genocidal regime has never faded in Battambang province people’s and authority’s awareness.
He stressed that the statue would be an outstanding point in educating the younger generation about the tradition of the struggle for national protection.
The statute was built as a symbol of the solidarity, friendship and closeness between the army and people of the two countries in general, and between Battambang province and Vietnamese localities in particular./.
