Dong Nai strengthening cooperation with Cuban province

On October 23, at the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, leaders from Dong Nai province and Pinar del Rio province (Cuba) signed a Cooperation Agreement to strengthen relations in political, economic, cultural, social and people-to-people exchanges between the two localities. This agreement aims to contribute to the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.

According to the agreement, the two provinces will engage in high-level exchanges on mutual interests, continue efforts to consolidate friendship, cooperation, dialogue and joint development, all in accordance with international law and the legal systems of each country.

Both sides will enhance dialogue and information exchange, allowing for cooperation and investment projects in areas such as agricultural food products, livestock farming, tourism, healthcare and education. They will also work to create favorable conditions for businesses from both provinces to establish cooperative relationships.

Additionally, Dong Nai and Pinar del Rio will coordinate activities to strengthen cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges, closely linked with economic development and experience sharing between the two provinces.

At the meeting, Nguyen Hong Linh, Secretary of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, expressed his pleasure in welcoming Yamilé Ramos Cordero, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and First Secretary of Pinar del Rio province, along with other members of the delegation visiting Dong Nai. He also provided an overview of the socio-economic situation in Dong Nai.

Dong Nai is located in the southern key economic region, with 32 industrial zones and many national-level projects under development, creating significant potential and opportunities for rapid growth. The province is one of the top five contributors to the national budget.

Secretary Nguyen Hong Linh mentioned that in September 2023, he led a delegation from Dong Nai to visit Cuba. He highlighted that 2025 will mark the 65th anniversary of Vietnam-Cuba cooperation, and the signing of the cooperation agreement between Dong Nai and Pinar del Rio will further enrich the special solidarity between the two countries.

Yamilé Ramos Cordero, First Secretary of Pinar del Rio province, expressed her gratitude for the warm and respectful reception by Dong Nai's leaders and expressed a desire to learn from Dong Nai's development experiences.

She also provided an overview of Pinar del Rio, located in western Cuba, with great potential for agriculture, tourism, hydropower and fisheries development. Currently, 65% of the province's economy relies on agriculture, with world-famous cigars accounting for around 70% of the country's total production. Pinar del Rio also ranks third in Cuba in rice production.

In the coming period, Pinar del Rio aims to focus on developing the building materials industry, expanding hydropower plants to address electricity supply challenges, and increasing the cultivation area for rice and crops./.
