HCMA honors contributions of UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam

(CPV) – The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) held a ceremony in Hanoi to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and award medal to Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam, on September 7.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, highly appreciated UNDP's contributions to the socio-economic development process of Vietnam in particular and the world in general; especially in the fields of green and sustainable development, human resource training, and strengthening the role of female leaders in the Vietnamese political system.

He said that the signing of the MOU with UNDP today will be an important basis for the two sides to continue to develop a deeper and more effective cooperative relationship in the coming time; contribute to sharing knowledge and techniques of UNDP with the academy, thereby enhancing the academy’s capacity to train cadres; and contribute to improving the quality of strategic cadres, serving the socio-economic development program of Vietnam in the coming period.

For her part, Ms. Caitlin Wiesen affirmed that UNDP will make efforts to participate in and implement the Strategic Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation between the United Nations and the Government of Vietnam in the period of 2022-2026, the Vietnam - UNDP Country Program for the period of 2022-2026, including many important areas such as: economic transformation, response to climate change, and strengthening resilience to natural disasters.

“We hope our cooperation in thematic issues of mutual interest as mentioned in the MOU remains strategic as both organizations look forward to promoting stronger leadership skills, better government functioning; and, inclusive, people-centered and responsive institutions,” she emphasized.

On this occasion, HCMA President awarded the Medal "For the cause of training and fostering political theory" to Ms. Caitlin Wiesen.

The medal is the noblest award to honor individuals and groups that have made important contributions to the cause of training and fostering cadres on leadership, management, research, policy advice and development of the academy.

Expressing her honor when receiving the medal, Ms. Caitlin Wiesen sincerely thanked the Government and agencies of Vietnam in general and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in particular for their support and cooperation; and affirmed that UNDP is always ready to accompany and support Vietnam in the process of building and implementing socio-economic development strategies and policies as well as training cooperation programs of the academy.

Ms. Caitlin Wiesen pledged that the UNDP in Vietnam will continue to promote cooperation in the fields that have contributed to the cooperation between the two sides, for the sustainable development of Vietnam.

“I am confident that my successor and colleagues at UNDP Vietnam look forward to working in continued close partnership with the HCMA in the years to come within the framework of this Memorandum of Understanding and beyond,” she said./.
