On October 17, in the capital Phnom Penh, Politburo member and Standing member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong met with King Norodom Sihamoni.
He expressed his pleasure to pay an official visit to Cambodia during the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year, thanking the King for welcoming the delegation, and conveying the cordial greetings of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the Cambodian Queen’ mother and King.
Mr. Thuong expressed his pleasure that Vietnam - Cambodia relations in recent years have continued to develop well in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world. He affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to and gives top priority to the Vietnam - Cambodia relationship. He expressed his deep gratitude for the sincere, valuable and effective support and assistance that the late King Norodom Sihanouk, as well as King Norodom Sihamoni, have given Vietnam so far.
King Norodom Sihamoni highly appreciated the significance of Mr. Thuong's visit, showing the importance of Cambodia - Vietnam relations, conveying the greetings of the Queen’s Mother and the King to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Vietnamese leaders.
He emphasized the good neighborliness, friendship and mutual help between Cambodia and Vietnam.
King Norodom Sihamoni was pleased that the leaders of the two countries continued to maintain and promote the Cambodia-Vietnam cooperative relationship, for the benefit of the two peoples, for peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world. The Queen’s Mother and the King personally always actively contribute to the two countries' relations and believe that the two countries' relations will continue to develop strongly. King Norodom Sihamoni congratulated Vietnam on great and comprehensive achievements, especially in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, restoring socio-economic development, and enhancing its position in the international arena.
He also expressed his deep thanks to Vietnam for helping Cambodia escape the former genocidal regime, as well as always supporting Cambodia in the development of the country today./.
