He made the statement during his reception for Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.
Mr. Hun Manet thanked Mr. Vo Van Thuong for taking the time to receive the delegation and expressed his delight at celebrating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries with many meaningful activities, including the commemoration of the 45 years of Prime Minister Hun Sen's "Path to overthrowing the genocidal regime of Pol Pot".
He affirmed that the two Parties and countries had worked closely to overcome many difficulties and made many achievements in the fight against the common enemy of national liberation in the 1970s and 1980s, and to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime in the new stage.
The Cambodian People's Party, the State and the people of Cambodia sincerely thank and never forget the Party, State, people and People's Army of Vietnam for their blood sacrifices to help the Cambodian people in the struggle for national liberation and in the cause of building and developing the country today.
He also asserted that Cambodia will always preserve and cultivate friendship and strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in the context of the current complicated international situation to develop together.
“The Cambodian Party, State and people are happy about the achievements of the Vietnamese people under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam in all aspects, including the control of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continuously improved life of the people,” he said.
He informed the results of his visit to promote cooperation between the two Parties and countries, especially between young officers and young people of the two countries, sincerely thanking Vietnam for supporting and helping Cambodia well assume the role of ASEAN Chair in 2022 and in international and regional forums.
Mr. Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated Mr. Hun Manet's visit, and congratulated Cambodia's achievements in the past time.
He emphasized that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the People's Party of Cambodia share a common origin from the Indochinese Communist Party, the two Parties stood side by side to overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime, expressing pleasure about the development of Vietnam-Cambodia relations over the past time.
He expressed his belief that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People's Party will always unite and help each other to win many new victories.
He added he was pleased with the results of cooperation between the two Parties that have become more and more in-depth and practical. Noting that defense cooperation is a pillar in the relationship between the two countries, he affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam respect and are grateful for the support of the Party, the State and the people of Cambodia in the cause of national construction, protection and development; expressing his hope that the two sides would promote appropriate forms of cooperation between the young officers and youth of the two countries.
“Vietnam is always ready to support Cambodia's success in foreign affairs,” he went on to say, adding that he believed that under the wise reign of King Sihamoni, and the wise leadership of the Cambodian People's Party, the Cambodian people continue to gain many new and greater achievements./.
