In the 2019-2020 school year, the school has total of 612 students, of which Vietnamese-Khmer bilingual teaching is expected to apply until grade 4.
The school has four facilities with the main site of nearly 2,000 square meters, located in Ta Ngov hamlet, Niroth commune, Chbar Ampov district in Phnom Penh.
Despite many difficulties, the school achieved the set targets and successfully completed its tasks in the 2018-2019 school year.
According to Principal of Tan Tien Khmer - Vietnam Friendship Primary School Thach Thi Lan, the biggest current challenge of the school is recruiting teachers. Most teachers have not been trained in pedagogy and actual salary is not enough to meet the needs of life, so it has a significant impact on the quality of teaching.
The school has been teaching the curriculum of Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training. In addition, it also teaches Khmer letter for pupils from kindergarten to grade 4 for many years to help them better integrate into the local community.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh thanked the administration and agencies under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for their policies to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese pupils and families to study at Cambodian public schools.
He also hoped that in the near future, more and more Vietnamese-Cambodian children would be able to study at Cambodian public schools. In particular, the ambassador emphasized the need to discuss the school models for Vietnamese-Cambodian children, linking schools for them to study in the Cambodian public school system.
With the expansion of the Cambodian educational program in the Tan Tien school system, Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport will consider the possibility of connecting and recognizing the academic results of Tan Tien school, for Vietnamese - Cambodian children to attend higher education levels in Cambodia.
Not only that, this will be a complete mechanism to bring Tan Tien school into the Cambodian public school system. Thus Vietnamese - Cambodian and Khmer children can study under the same school and share educational facilities./.
