General Association of Vietnamese People in Laos organizes third congress

The General Association of Vietnamese People in Laos held its third congress and elected an executive committee for the 2022 - 2026 tenure in Vientiane on December 12.

The congress adopted the revised statutes of the general association, reviewed the operation of the general association during 2015 - 2022, and defined orientations for the new tenure, including aligning the association’s activities with the new context, including the socio-economic situation in Laos, the development of the two countries’ relations, and the role and position of the Vietnamese community in Laos.

At the congress, a new executive committee consisting of 23 members, was elected for the third tenure, an Mr. Pham Van Hung was elected as the Chairman of the general association.

Speaking at the congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung highly appreciated the contributions of the second-tenure executive committee as well as achievements of the Vietnamese community in Laos.

He asked the new executive committee to further reform their activities, strongly boost the general association’s coordination with its chapters, and stay united to help with the development of Laos and the homeland.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also thanked the Lao Ministry of Home Affairs, the Lao Front for National Construction, and relevant agencies of the host country for supporting the general association.

Mr. Hung expressed his hope that authorities of Laos will continue creating conditions for the general association to build a united Vietnamese community to contribute to Laos's development, the special relations of the two countries, and the homeland.

Established on August 19, 2009, the General Association of Vietnamese People in Laos now has 14 chapters in provinces and cities across the Land of a Million Elephants./.
