Overseas Vietnamese send nearly 9.5 billion USD of overseas remittances to HCMC

A conference was held by the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Committee for Overseas Vietnamese on March 6 to summarize overseas Vietnamese affairs in 2023 and implementing tasks in 2024.

Speaking at the conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai informed that in 2023, the city’s Party Committee and government made efforts, strengthened combinations of domestic and foreign resources, seized opportunities and obtained many significant achievements in domestic and foreign affairs.

He praised the achievements of the HCMC Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in 2023.

Last year, overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly US$9.5 billion, surging about 43 percent compared to 2022, equivalent to nearly 50 percent of budget revenue in 2023.

Mr. Hai highly appreciated contributions from the collective of the HCMC Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, overseas Vietnamese groups and individuals to the city’s overall development.

In 2024, he asked the HCMC Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to continue to accelerate coordination with relevant units in luring overseas Vietnamese in construction and development activities of the city in particular and the country in general; urgently completing a data software for Vietnamese people abroad and the project on the policy of attracting and effectively promoting remittance resources in HCMC in the period 2023 – 2030.

The Standing Deputy Secretary also asked to strengthen connections between the city's businessmen and Vietnamese businessmen abroad; encourage overseas Vietnamese to exchange and provide information about market demands, tastes, regulations on product quality standards of host country’s market, and serve as a bridge to introduce domestic businesses' products to abroad; mobilize and call on overseas Vietnamese to invest, produce and do business, introduce products and brands of overseas Vietnamese  to invest in the homeland.

At the conference, Mr. Tran Duc Hien, Vice Chairman of the HCMC Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said that in 2024, the Committee will focus on implementing 10 key tasks, such as organizing arts troupes to serve overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024 and learning about life of overseas Vietnamese in other countries; organizing delegations to visit, present gifts, health examinations and distribute medicines to overseas Vietnamese and people in difficult circumstances in Cambodia and Laos; organizing delegations to visit officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5; organizing summer camp for overseas Vietnamese youth; and organizing an outstanding overseas Vietnamese delegation offering incense at Hung Temple on the Hung King's Death Anniversary./.
