Quang Ninh provides free swimming courses for children

(CPV) - Quang Ninh province, located near the sea and with many rivers, streams, ponds and lakes, faces the problem of children drowning in the province every year. To deal with the situation, the localities, levels and sectors of Quang Ninh province have opened free swimming courses for children.

This summer, the spillway in Quang Chinh village of Hai Ha district has become a place to teach children in the district to swim. The spillway has signs marking the depth in each area and its surrounding is protected by floats, with lifejackets.

According to Mr. Nguyen Son Ha, Secretary of the Hai Ha district Youth Union, this year the district Youth Union organized two free pilot swimming teaching classes for 60 trainees aged 10-16 with two teachers and 2 technical supervisors to ensure safety and technique for the children.

In early June, Dong Trieu district organized four free swimming classes for children aged 6-14. After more than a month of joining free swimming teach class, so far 130 children in Dong Trieu district have learned basic skills to swim and how to rescue themselves and others from drowning.

According to the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, this summer the province has opened 22 free swimming classes for children in 11 out of 14 districts, towns, cities in the province, an increase of 17 classes compared to 2012.

With the efforts of the localities, levels and sectors, Quang Ninh will certainly complete the target of reduction of 25% of children dying from drowning by 2015 compared to 2012./.
