(CPV) - The northern province of Quang Ninh has officially proposed to halt the expansion of scale of two cement plants located near Ha Long Bay, due to concern about the risk of environmental pollution of this world heritage site.
In a meeting with the inspection delegation of the Ministry of Construction recently about cement projects in the province, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People's Committee Do Thong petitioned the Government and the Ministry of Construction to halt the deployment of the phase 2 of Thang Long cement plant and Ha Long cement plant in the current locations.
Under the roadmap until 2030, the two cement plants will cease operations and move to the northern Ha Long - Mong Cai highway, where the Prime Minister has approved planning for industrial plants.
The two plants are the main agents causing environmental pollution in the region of Ha Long bay. Therefore, to ensure long-term strategy and environmental protection, it should move the two plants to more suitable locations.
In addition, Cam Pha cement plant is also located near Bai Tu Long bay, and negatively impacts the environment and landscape of the bay./.
