Houseboats on Ha Long Bay to be moved to resettlement area

Pham Hong Ha, Deputy Chairman of the Ha Long Municipal People's Committee, Quang Ninh Province on May 14 said that on May 22, 143 out of 462 houseboats on Ha Long Bay will be moved to a resettlement area of a fishing village in Ha Phong Ward, Ha Long city.

The Ha Long Municipal People’s Committee has completed 364 resettlement apartments in the resettlement area in Ha Phong Ward with areas of 77.5m2 to 128m2 and the technical infrastructure systems such as road, water supply and irrigation system and electricity.

In term of supporting for career change, the Ha Long Municipal People's Committee has a suitable policy in place.

In 2012 and 2013, the city opened two training courses on aquaculture and net-knitting for 70 trainees who are residents of houseboats.

Ha Long city has committed to relocation of all houseboats on Ha Long Bay before June 30, 2014 to contribute to preserving the World Natural Heritage./.
