PM approves the implementation of Quang Ninh airport project

The Governmental Office on July 29, issued a direction document from Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, asking the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee to carry out essential procedures for the implementation of the Quang Ninh airport project.
Accordingly, the People’s Committee asked to discuss with the Korea Airport Authorities Corporation, Joinus Vietnam Joint Stock Company and Posco E&C Join Stock Company, to finalize a Build-Operation-Transfer (BOT) feasibility study and report for the project.
Later on, the People’s Committee, in coordination with the Ministries of Planning and Investment, Transportation, and other relevant agencies will host a meeting to assess and approve the feasibility study report, implement the next steps of the project and finalize the name of the investor in accordance with the current law.
Located at Doan Ket commune, Van Don island district, the Quang Ninh airport project needs to meet the 4E standard of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO, and be able to provide services for Boeing B777 aircrafts.
The project is divided into two phases, for both commercial and military purposes. In the first phase, from now to 2020, the airport will develop at least 4 parking places for aircraft, a 2-storey passenger terminal with the capacity of 2 million passengers per year and build facilities to manage an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes of cargo. The second phase (orientation to 2030) will see a further 7 parking places for aircraft, capacity for 5 million passenger per year and 30,000 tonnes of cargo. The parking place for military purpose will cover around 336,000 square meters, to be invested if considered necessary.
Covering around 284ha, it will have one landing/taking off runway with a complex system of taxi and parking areas with a total investment of around VND5,128 billion./.
