The Ha Long Bay Management Board, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have organized a mangroves planting festival in Dau Go cave on July 31.

The event lured the participation of around 60 volunteers from JICA, students and staff from Osaka University, students from Japan’s Hyogo high school, Ngo Quyen high school in Quang Ninh province, representatives from the Ha Long Bay Management Board and Quang Ninh provincial Communist Youth Union.

During this time, some of 1,500 varieties of mangrove have been planted under the instruction of JICA experts, creating a green space for the Bay.

Planting mangroves is part of a series of programs, which JICA has been carrying out in the province, aimed at improving the environment in the Bay. Since 2009, this annual festival has actively raised the awareness of the local people as well as young generation in protecting the beauty of the Bay’s surrounding area, and cultivating solidarity and friendship among Vietnamese and Japanese youth.

Besides Dau Go cave, in the last several years, mangrove planting festivals have also taken place in Ba Cua cave and Thien Cung cave accounting for thousands of aegiceras, mangroves and Brugiuera cylindricas./.
