Quang Ninh counts 5,200 HIV patients

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has appeared in all 14 districts, towns and cities and 165 out of 186 communes and wards in the province. The number of people dying from the disease had reached 4,905. In the first five months of the year, new infections diagnosed for the same period reached 156 and 58 people had died of the disease.

The HIV infection rate in Quang Ninh is 0.42 percent, of which 22.4% are due to intravenous drug abuse.

The methadone treatment program has been active in Ha Long city, Cam Pha city, Van Don and Dong Trieu districts for the treatment of 819 drug users.

In the near future, the provincial Health Department will add another methadone treatment facility to it’s treatment resources. The new facility in Uong Bi city should manage the supply services for 1,100 drug users./.
