Northern district focuses on caring for ethnic minority people

Over the past years, Van Don district of the northern province of Quang Ninh, has focused on realising the Party and State policies for ethnic minority people in the district.
Information announced during the district’s congress on ethnic minorities held on August 26, showed that over 5,000 ethnic minority people in disadvantaged regions had been given medical insurance cards while over 6,000 pupils had been supported with school fees, food fees and daily expenses.
Furthermore, the district supported the building of 176 houses for the poor and beneficiaries’ families with a total capital of over VND6 billion.
It also concentrated on training ethnic minority cadres and officials working within the district apparatus.
Together with the support of a loan from the State to built infrastructure and establish production, the ethnic minority groups in the districts have actively improved economic development by joining emulation campaigns, and have remarkably improved their spiritual and material lives.
The districts are striving to eliminate extremely disadvantaged villages and reduce the poverty rate among ethnic minority groups from 1.57% in 2013 to 0.39% by 2020.
In addition, they plan to exploit all the potential from the region to boost economic development, invest more in ethnic minority-inhabited regions and care more about vocational training and job creation among young ethnic minority people./.
