Houses handed over to residents on Tran island

On October 19, the Co To district People’s Committee in the northern province of Quang Ninh worked with the North - Eastern Company of the Ministry of National Defence to hand over houses for 17 families on Tran island. These are initial families going to reside on the island based on the guidelines of the provincial People’s Committee.

The houses belong to the first phase of the infrastructure investment project on the island. Each house is worth VND1 billion. Apart from the houses, the families were also provided furniture and domestic appliances such as televisions, wardrobes and beds.
In addition, the district People’s Committee has planned to build a school and medical stations on the island.
The provincial People’s Committee adopted the project in 2013 with capital of over VND162 billion. The island has an area of some 5.5 square kilometres and situated some 45 kilometers from Co To district’s centre. Bringing residents to live on the island is considered a crucial task in boosting socio-economic development and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands.
To encourage people to come to the island, the province has issued a number of preferential policies to assist them stabilise their lives. Accordingly, each family is given free residential land, support for oil for lighting, free medical insurance cards and preferential loan for production. Moreover, their children enjoy free study in pre-schools and primary schools and are allowed to join boarding schools in the mainland for high school education./.
