Nguyen Minh Huy and 20 other members from the BK STAR Club under the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) have successfully invented a smart device to remind COVID-19 patients to take their medicine on time and at the right dose, to donate to the frontline doctors at Danang Hospital.

Twelve more patients in Quang Nam, Da Nang cleared of Covid-19, total recovered patients rise to 421

Nguyen Minh Huy, born in 1997, graduated half a year ahead of schedule, with excellent grades from HUST. He is the Chairman of BK STAR Club under HUST.

According to Huy, the idea of a smart device was rekindled at the end of July, before the second wave of COVID-19 broke out in Da Nang. The prototype of the smart reminder aims to help parents exchange information with their children more conveniently and advise their children before going to work. Therefore, the original concept of the product will serve households.

“However, during the process making the product right at the time of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we find that it is very appropriate to provide these smart reminders to hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. The machine will help health workers save time and energy in taking care of mild and recovering patients, to concentrate efforts on caring for more severe patients,” Mr. Huy shared.

He and other members from the club stayed up for three consecutive nights to complete the product to serve patients.

Accordingly, the smart reminder will serve to remind patients to take medication on time. The reminder has the function to record and play back the instructions as scheduled via app or web server. Doctors can record and control the device remotely via wifi. The product has 2 modes: recording and then saving the instructions to the device and recording, then saving via app or web server.

The device is powered by a cell battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh and is rechargeable. With a compact design of 9.5cm high, 7.5cm wide and 4.3cm long), this device like a small box and can be place at the head of the patient's bed for convenience. When it is time to take the medication according to the doctor's set schedule, the device will automatically play a reminder. If patients want to listen to the reminder again, they just gently shake the box. In the case of not fully understanding the doctor's instructions, the patient can access the web to ask questions. The device is now only 350,000VND/unit.

“When being funded by VNPT Technology Company and accompanied with BK STAR to donate these devices to Danang hospital, we feel very happy and touched because we can contribute our small part together with the country to fight against the pandemic," Huy said.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Bang, Deputy General Director of VNPT Technology Company, shared that as a technology business, we find that the project of smart medicine reminders of BK STAR Club – HUST is very meaningful in this period. While Da Nang City is straining against the pandemic, the small medical device will provide a lot of support for frontline doctors./.
